Perot Museum

Last month, we took a field trip  to visit the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas. These pictures are from the Animal Exhibit. We learned a lot about about the bodies of animals and how they preserved them.

Top Hands Horse Show 2014

We went to the Top Hands Horse Show in Houston in February. I rode Jet and I competed in English and Western.  The people treated us very nice and served us breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with snacks.  I had an awesome time.  I placed first in western trail and received a beautiful belt buckle.  To my surprise, I was chosen Queen of the Horse Show on Saturday morning.  I am looking forward to the Top Hands Competition next year.

A Smelling Experience

On December 29, 2013 at 3:00 a.m. we were sleeping. I heard a big commotion because mom and dad were up because they were woken up by a bad smell. I got up because I heard them talking about a smell. There was a burning rubber smell all through the house. It was bad!  I said it was a skunk. Then we called our Uncle Peter and he didn't know what the smell was?  The smell was so bad we had to sleep in the van.  Finally about 8:00 when the smell was still very strong in the house, Peter suggested we call the fire department and see what they thought it might be.

So, the firetruck engine 36 showed up at our house. It was awesome. They walked in the house and immediately  said it was a skunk.   After looking on the back patio, they saw where the skunk had sprayed right by our back door.  Not sure what Angel was doing at the time, but she got sprayed a little. So we had to give her a bath.  After the bath she gave me this look.  It took a long time to get rid of all the smell in our house....

Tandy Leather Factory in Fort Worth

On January 28, 2014 we went to the Tandy Leather Factory with our 4H group.  We were able to see lots of skins of different animals. People buy the skins to make purses, upholster furniture, make belts, and other items.

All the skins hanging on the wall.

A look at the store

I made a key chain and a bookmark out of leather.  I loved it.  We even bought a kit to take home.If you have never been to the Tandy Leather Factory, you should go to check it out!http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com

Chisholm Challenge 2014

January 13-15, 2014 I participated in the Fort Worth Chisholm Challenge.  I did Western Showmanship, Western Trail, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, English Equitation on the Flat, and Hunter under the Saddle.

It was in the Justin Arena in Fort Worth where they have the Stock show.  I won several ribbons on Jet and I had a great time meeting some new friends and riding horses.

What Horseback Riding Means to Me
by Zhanna Linscombe, Age 14

I love animals and working with animals. Horseback riding allows me to work closely with the horses. Horseback riding also helps me build my courage. If I make a mistake or even fall off, then I just try again! It is very exciting and fun to be around the horses or, even better, riding them!
